The Philodendron Splendid is a stunning houseplant belonging to the Araceae family with heart-shaped foliage and veins that run from the midrib to arch out to the edges. It originates from Ecuador’s rainforest and can grow up to two feet in length and one foot in width. As a climbing Philodendron, it needs a support structure to grow upward. Despite its dramatic look, caring for the Philodendron Splendid is pretty easy once you have the basic needs covered.
Light
This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. The best spots for it are North or East-facing windowsills. However, if you place it near West or South-facing windows, make sure to position it about 4 feet away to reduce light intensity and behind drapes or blinds. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while insufficient light will result in smaller and duller leaves. If you live in an apartment with no windows and natural light, consider investing in grow lights, as the plant does well under them.
Water
When you water your Philodendron Splendid, it is important to make sure that the soil stays consistently moist during the spring and summer months, but be careful not to oversaturate the soil with water. Only water your plant when the top two inches of soil are dry. You can check the moisture level by sticking your finger into the soil. Overwatering can lead to root rot and fungal diseases while underwatering can make your plant appear pale and leggy. Always water as close to the soil as possible to avoid foliage diseases, fungi, and unwanted pests or insects. Adjust the frequency of watering according to seasonal changes. During the fall and winter, you should reduce the frequency of watering.

Temperature

Humidity
To maintain your plant’s health, it is important to maintain a humidity level of at least 40%. Ideally, the humidity level should be above 60%. You can use a digital hygrometer to check the humidity level if you reside in a dry area. Low humidity can cause browned edges and cracked leaves. Keeping the plant away from air conditioners and heaters is recommended, as they dry out the air. Misting the plant is not advised because of its large leaves. Instead, you can use a pebble tray or a humidifier to increase humidity levels.

Fertilizer
